Swishy Pants

I learned an important lesson last night, do not wear any clothing that makes any type of noise when you have an infant you are try to get to sleep. I was wearing a pair of what I call Swishy Pants. I had put them on last night because I wanted to wear something comfortable as we were getting settled for the night and my yoga pants were in the washer. Every time I would get Lily almost asleep, which is when I can usually put her in her crib and she will fall asleep on her own, my pants would make a noise and wake her up. And not just wake her up a little bit, but startle her so awake that it would take a couple minutes to calm her down and then she would just want to smile and coo and just generally be cute for the next 20 minutes. After a couple rounds of this wonderful "game" I won and she was asleep in her crib. I decided to go check on her after a bit, because obsessively checking on our sleeping infants is what new moms do, and my pants made swishing noises at the door and woke her up. I finally gave up with trying to get her to sleep in her room (still kinda wondering why I didn't think to just change my pants) and we settled in on the couch for some snuggle/sleep time. She finally did go to sleep and I was able to put her in the crib, but that was around 1am, about 3 hours after I started this whole ordeal.

The best part about all of this is that around 9pm she fell asleep at Buffalo Wild Wings when we went to visit Sean. It was fairly loud tonight and with all the tvs on I figured she would be wide awake, but no, slept through most of the visit and then wakes up to swishy pants...

3 months

Lily is 3 months old today. I had wonderful hopes of doing another photo shoot with her today to celebrate but she has had other plans including being fussy and sleeping. Now it is too late in the day to get good shots because there s no natural light. Hopefully tomorrow will work out better. I am still going to try to get a few pictures with her in her "3" onsie tonight.

She is smiling so much now and giggling a little bit. Usually when she giggles she stops and looks confused. Unfortunately every time she starts to smile and giggle and I pull out the camera or video camera she just stares at it. While this is cute, I have not been able to get all that many photos of her beautiful smile.

She is also starting to try to roll over from front to back. Every time we put her on her tummy she starts to throw her upper body back and her legs up so that she is balancing on just her tummy. She will also try to push with one of her legs and arms until she is part way rolled over. The only thing that is stopping her is that other arm, the one she is trying to roll over. If she could just figure out where to put it she would have it.

Bedtimes

So we decided to start implementing a bed time routine in hopes that she will go to sleep around the same time every night. I am hoping this will help her get on a routine for naps as well so that Sean and my mom can plan the days they have her better instead of just wondering when she is going to eat or nap. We tried to pick a time that fit into when she was typically going to bed because I figured that trying to force her to sleep when she wasn't tired, or stay awake when she was, was just going to make for some very rough evenings. Right now her bedtime is 10pm. She was already falling asleep sometime between 10 and 11 anyway. The last two nights have gone VERY well. In fact last night she was completely awake when I put her in her crib at 10:10 and she didn't make a single sound and must have been asleep by 10:25 when Sean got home because again, no sounds. She is actually still asleep. I am so happy that we have such a good little sleeper. I am sure if we ever have another one we probably will not be so lucky.

Here are finally some pictures

She was not so happy with getting her photo taken on her 2 month birthday.

This was taken shortly after I took the 2 off her onsie...I guess she just didn't like that because for the rest of the photos she was smiling.

No Time

Having a 10 week old, working full time, and trying to keep the house in some type of order has led me to realize that I have no time. Since I have no time the blog has not been updated in entirely too long. I can't believe it has been almost a month and I apologize to everyone that enjoys the updates on Lily. I promise that I will work to fit this into my schedule a bit more.

She is getting so big. At her last appointment, which was last week, she weighed 11.44lbs and was 23in tall. That means she is in the 65th percentile for weight and 73rd for height. She is definitely going to be tall like her daddy. At that visit she also had to get a lot of shots =( It is definitely not easy to watch some stranger stick a needle into your daughter. At least she didn't cry for very long with them and was actually asleep in her carrier before the even hit the office door. We also had to talk to her pediatrician about starting to supplement her feedings with formula. While I am trying to feed her breastmilk as much as possible she is just wanting to eat more than I am producing. A lot of this started when I went back to work and we had to introduce bottles of pumped breastmilk. I think she started to realize that it is a lot easier to drink out of a bottle instead of me and fusses every time I try to breastfeed. That and the pumping started making my supply drop. We are doing things to try to increase my supply but I'm not noticing that much improvement. The good thing is that she really doesn't seem to mind the formula.

Lily is smiling all the time now and is getting very close to giggling. She keeps making sounds that sound like the start of a giggle when she is smiling and cooing at us but then stops and looks kinda confused. She is also getting super strong and can hold her head up when we are holding her. She loves being held upright now instead of being cradled so that she can turn her head and look around. She is definitely a social little one and doesn't like to go to sleep if anything is going on.

I found an online community of other mothers in the Columbus, Ohio area. It is great to be able to have a place to express my thoughts to other women that have gone or are still going through the same things. Most of the moms have children a year or more older than Lily so they are giving me lots of advice. A group of us even got together for dinner the other night without any kids or husbands. It was nice to have an evening to myself. When I came home from dinner though I didn't want to put Lily down and just cuddled with her the rest of the evening.

I will try to upload some pictures in the next couple of days. For some reason the website keeps giving me an error tonight every time I try.
